Exploring Typography

Inspired by Jim Carrey’s painting and a friend’s calligraphy posts on Instagram, I started creating this last night.

I don’t paint but I do best in drawing straight lines and symmetrical objects including, but not limited to, stick figures. Haha! When I was in high school, I always get a flat 1.0 grade in my technical drawing projects. I loved the feeling of “getting in the zone” when I’m using rulers, protractors, a compass or a mechanical pencil. Most, if not all, of my doodles back then were parallel and perpendicular lines together with shapes of squares and diamonds, forming a large non-existent object with symmetry in design, and one that can be likened to an abstract painting.

A senpai once told me I have a pretty good handwriting, too. When I write in all capital letters, people say that it almost looks as if it were typewritten, and not handwritten. I have always preferred writing this way, and in fact, back in the fifth grade wherein we were supposed to write in cursive, I wrote my name in all caps. I was warned by my teacher for not following instructions, but that didn’t stop me anyway. (Yes, I was kind of stubborn. Haha)

So here it is, my first attempt at typography. Far from perfect, but it’s a start. 🙂

Painful Friday :(

Having a meeting scheduled at 9AM, I woke up early with a nagging headache. I thought it will be gone after an hour or so but that wasn’t the case. Coupled with menstrual cramps, I certainly wasn’t in my best shape today. My officemate told me she experiences headaches every time she had her period. I don’t recall having these in the past though, so I did a little bit of searching  to check if they are indeed related. Here’s what I found:

Many women suffer from headaches at the beginning of a period. They are thought to be caused by a combination of the plummeting levels of hormones that occurs in the day or so before bleeding starts, combined with the release of prostaglandins from the womb that occurs with the onset of bleeding.

You can help to prevent the effects of prostaglandins (which can include period pains, and also digestive upsets) by taking drugs that block their action, such as ibuprofen (available from chemists) or mefenamic acid (available on prescription).

Ugh, so it was all because of hormones! I really thought I was going to faint so I rushed to the clinic right after our training. The nurse gave me two capsules of Medicol (Ibuprofen) and after taking one, I felt relatively better.

Something tells me I need to get back on track and start running again.

“I Do”

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.

I received another invitation from a high school friend. Yet another wedding I won’t be attending. I already lost count of how many invites I had politely refused in the past. It’s not that I hate weddings, no. Just that I see marriage as another form of bonds – and you know how much I hate those. Nevertheless, I’m happy for these friends who have found someone they’re willing to spend the rest of their lives with. And I wish them joy and happiness as they start another milestone in their lives. 🙂

Lost Focus?

Want to completely focus but can’t concentrate on the tasks at hand? There are days when you easily get distracted by the noise and movements around you. You see, that rarely happens to me but today it did. So what to do? A few years back, I’ve discovered this method that totally works for me. Pick one song – it could be from any genre, but I usually choose loud music from American rock bands that I know of, or perhaps something soothing like a piano piece from Yiruma. Then place that song on your music queue and have it on infinite replay. After the first 4-5 repeats, you’ll realize that all the distractions get filtered out. Works like magic!

Today, it’s this song. 🙂

Happy Week

Thursday

When was the last time you did something for the first time? I don’t know what came into my mind, perhaps I was just looking for something to break my routine, but I accepted an invitation to join a Zumba dance class at Tieto. It was a fun experience; exhausting, yes, but somehow de-stressing. I slept really well through the night and woke up with some muscle pains in the morning. Something tells me I’ve been lazy for way too long. Haha

Friday

Before the workweek ended, I was greeted with a good news. My interim performance evaluation yielded positive results. 🙂 I’m glad my colleagues appreciate my contributions to our team, and I’m even happier that I’ve gotten closer to them now (or is it just me who’s feeling close? Haha). I feel so blessed, everything’s slowly falling into place. 🙂

Saturday

Due to painful menstrual cramps, I stayed on my bed for the rest of the day, only getting up when it was time to eat. I occupied my self by reading an e-book which I’ve finished on that same day. I’m done with both these two, The Selection and The Prince, and I’m on my way to the second part of the trilogy, which is The Elite.

Earlier this week, I listened to an audio book version of Robert Kiyosaki’s Before You Quit Your Job, so the above light readings were somehow meant to balance things out. ^^,

Sunday

I was excited to have myself enrolled in a cooking class! Yes, you heard me right! There are several classes which will be offered by Caro & Marie in the next two months. So far, we’ve picked three of the weekend sessions, the first of which is a Japanese cooking class on Aug 3. We visited their store outlet at the APM Mall today to register and pay for the enrollment fee.

After that, we went to SM to buy an ink cartridge for my printer. Boy, was I glad to remember the correct model! Lucky me!

Before going home, my friend and I bought some vegetable seedlings. A percentage of the proceeds will go to some government project for the malnourished kids. It seems like a noble cause, so why not buy a few?

These are bell pepper, tomato and eggplant seedlings – my babies haha. I named them Elijah the Eggplant, Johan Zachary the Tomato, and Isaiah the Bellpepper. For now, they’ll be staying here before I transfer them to a larger pot next week. Until then, be safe, my sons!

This week’s been pretty hectic, but nevertheless, happy, productive and fruitful.

And I can’t wait for August! It’s going to be a month of firsts for me!

Ciao!
